Simple Resume Cover Letter - How to Make a Simple Cover Letter That Works

Creating a simple resume cover letter is easy when you're clear about what you want to sell to the reader. At times we tend to ramble when we don't know exactly what were selling about ourselves. Focusing on just one or two things made it easier for me. This is what I did to stay on point an make it simple and easy to read.

First, before I started writing a very simple resume cover letter I would take a few minutes to figure out what I wanted to focus on. Was it going to be my experience on the field of work or was it going to be the knowledge I have about the company I'm applying to. I usually learned as much as I could about the company from their website. It can be a great place to pick up information, for now let say I decided to go with experience. This step helped me to not just vomit on to the page, everything I thought the reader wanted to hear.

Second, when possible I would find out who the letter was going to and who I would be assisting if that was part of the hiring plan. Why this? Well If I knew I was going to have a position supporting someone I wanted to make sure my simple resume cover letter touched on my ability to work well in a team and my success as an assistant before, if I had past experience doing this. If not I would keep it at team player and following direction accurately.

Last, I would put it all together and see how it looked. To give my simple resume cover letter a tweak of professionalism I found it useful to compare it with the cover letter creator I have. Sometimes I start with the cover letter creator, after I decided what point I wanted to focus my letter on and just very easily plug into it what I wanted. I would keep it short and simple not going over one page. Even with all the great options from the program, less is more if you consider the interviewer is going over twenty resumes and cover letters.

Cover Letter For a College Professor

The use of a cover letter for a college professor is extremely important. The purpose of the cover letter is to emphasize those experiences that make you desirable as a faculty member. However, it is only effective if it is brief and to the point. A cover letter should never be more than a page. In fact, it ideally should be about one-half to two-thirds of a page.

As a matter of course, a cover letter should be included whenever you submit a resume. In fact, it is a good idea is to have the cover letter saved in the same file with the resume so that you can send them together as a single attachment. This way the cover letter will become apparent when the resume is accessed.

There are certain elements that should be included in the cover letter. The first paragraph, which can be a sentence in length, should indicate the position you are applying for. If there is a job code, that should be included. You should go to the college's website and compile a list of courses that you would be certifiable to teach and include that in this first paragraph.

Cover Letter For a College Professor

The second paragraph should highlight your teaching experience and courses that you have taught. If you have taught online and you are applying for an online adjunct faculty position, you should also indicate the number of years and courses you have taught online. Also, indicate the online platforms that you are familiar with.

The third paragraph should briefly indicate your professional experiences that directly relate to the position. If you have no related professional experience, then do omit this part.

The fourth paragraph should outline your education. This should include the degree, the major, and the school attended. This paragraph is more important for people who have recently graduated but its importance diminishes with time and experience. Finish the letter thanking them for reviewing your qualifications.

The cover letter will enhance your chances of success because it demonstrates professionalism on your part and it is a summary of the most important parts of the resume. Anything you can do to make life easier for the reviewer enhances your chances of gaining employment.

Administrative Resume Cover Letter - Easy Guide to Get the Job Offer

I've applied at many places, for administrative positions. One thing I can share and be certain about is that my administrative resume cover letter has evolved with time. I don't send anything other than a well thought out cover letter. I spend some time on them so I expect to get at the very least a call back. This is what I do.

First, I make certain that I know who the interviewer will be. I'll contact human resources and inquire who that individual will be. I know the trouble this can be so I stay positive and call a few times to get the information. I know my resume and letter make a better impression if their addressed to the person. It shows initiative.

Second, I use language that the reader can relate too. This is where those cover letter manuals and programs come in handy. I found that they use terminology that the reader can relate too. In my experience it's worked out to do this. I've seen an increase in call backs and interviews. I've noticed in my last interviews a difference in the way the interview goes. I know it's my administrative resume cover letter that's putting a more experienced impression.

Administrative Resume Cover Letter - Easy Guide to Get the Job Offer

The last thing I make sure to include in the administrative resume cover letter is references back to my resume. I like to keep my letter to one page. I simply don't think they'll sit there and read three or four pages. I probably wouldn't. I know they skim through it and because of that I want to make sure they catch certain points of my resume. The easiest way I figured for this was to reference it on my letter.

I point to some parts of my resume by writing something like "as you'll notice on my resume, section V, I was involved in the Apollo program" or something like that. I'm just making a point here. That I think has helped me spike the reader to read my resume.

For me those ideas have worked. Addressing it directly to the interviewer, using terminology their familiar with and pointing to section of my resume have made a difference. I've been fortunate to have a couple of job offers. Now, if I could just get something closer to home, it would be great! I prefer to drive under an hour to work, especially with the price of gas now.

Letter of Recommendation from a Priest

Example Cover Letters - Letter of Recommendation

To whom it may concern,

Regarding Ellen Scott's interest in a teaching post in your school, I am writing you to personally recommend her for this job. As parish priest of the town of Castle Rock and Miss Scott's confessor for the past 15 years, I can readily attest to her good moral character, zeal for work and sincerity in helping others.

I have known Ellen since she was a child. She is from a prominent Catholic family in our town, and since I can remember has followed her parents' example in aiding the less fortunate. Her first teaching experience was as a volunteer for our Sunday school meetings. I saw for myself the love and dedication she showed for her work and her young students.

The 2001 earthquake was catastrophic for our area. Despite the tragic loss of her own sister in the event, Ellen rose to the occasion and offered all possible financial and material aid to our community. The local elementary school was badly damaged. Together with other church volunteers, Ellen arranged for temporary classroom facilities in her family's estate.

I have long cherished Ellen not only as a church volunteer and sister in the faith, but also as a good friend. She is a kind, cheerful individual who never tires of helping her fellow beings regardless of their own religious persuasion, intellectual sophistication or social or cultural background.

I highly recommend Ellen Scott for this job.

Sincerely,

Fr. Nelson Douglas
St. Michael's Parish

Cover Letters for Nurses

Why are cover letters so important? They provide the prospective employer with a brief review of your skills and abilities in the form of a letter. Letters are written much differently than resumes and can have a lasting impact on the reader.

The best news is that writing one it isn't that hard.
An excellent Registered Nurse is always going to be in demand. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, "Among all of the health care occupations, registered nurses had the highest level of employment--over 2 million."

What does that mean? It means there are more nursing positions in the health care industry than doctors, surgeons and technologists.

Cover Letters for Nurses

Nurses, generally speaking, are in a good labor market right now. If you are a nurse, that's good news. You should not encounter difficulties in obtaining work.

What about that awesome position with the top salary that you have your eye on, though? Do you think the competition for that position will be greater? You bet it will. That means your credentials will have to be presented in the best light possible if you are to get the job offer.

So, how do you write a great cover letter?

The cover letter builds on the resume and leads the employer toward it. Its goal is to get the employer excited about the resume. It is a sales tool, just like the resume is. Sell yourself in a compelling and exciting way. Inject energy and let your best qualities reach the employer through carefully written examples and anecdotes. Don't just state what you are capable of, show the employer what you have done in the past with vibrant language that attracts and invites the employer to want to know more.

You are a part of a significant sector of the labor market.
You have to be your very best to get the great jobs. What skills and abilities do you have that you can offer the employer - and - how can you do so in a way that makes the employer pick up the phone and call you for an interview?

Be personable, but professional at the same time.

Let your cover letter generate interest in your resume, then let your resume grab the employer's attention so that you are invited in for a face to face meeting.

A cover letter isn't likely to persuade an employer to grant you an interview on it's own, but it is part of the whole package that WILL encourage an employer to want to get to know you better. Make it an exciting and enjoyable read and you will find yourself being offered the next Registered Nurse position you apply for.

Best of luck!

~Carla Vaughan

Resume Rescue - How to Write a Strong Objective Statement That Gets You More Interviews

The objective statement is the most misused - and often abused - section in a resume. And that's a shame, since it's right at the top, and sets the tone for the rest of resume.

The mistake most people make is focusing on your own wants and needs, rather than the employer's need.

I can't tell you how bad it is to write about what you want to get out of the job, things like: "A rich and rewarding job that allows me to grow while utilizing my strengths" (Yes, people really do write objectives like this!)

Resume Rescue - How to Write a Strong Objective Statement That Gets You More Interviews

Here's another real-life example from a resume that came across my desk: "A personally satisfying position that exhibits all of my potential. Expansion on my experience combining FIX Protocol with TCP/IP and Front End connectivity including implementation of the Network, client through server. This includes managing new and existing projects that will increase liquidity for the firm and resourcefulness of the Network and User-base that I maintain."

As a hiring manager, I'd read that and think, "Hiring this person will be like taking on a second job! He wants me to ensure that he is personally satisfied, reaching his potential, and expanding his experience? I don't even know anything about him yet. I need someone to fill a void I currently have -- not a prima donna who is making demands before he begins. No, thanks!"

Save demands like these (even requests) and salary requirements for AFTER the interview process and you've received an offer. That's when you're in a position to ask for what you want.

The fix: Make your objective statement a single, focused statement that "hooks" your next boss by describing your best qualification. It should only be about the industry and the job function that you are interested in.

Here's an example of an effective Objective Statement: "A c++ programming position, in the financial services industry, using my 10 years experience in order-state management for Bond Trading."

Imagine yourself as the hiring manager. Can't you just see that person working for you? "Oh yes," you think, "This person can help me, they know what they are talking about, and I want that person's expertise on my team!" That's what you want them to come away with.

The purpose of your resume as a whole is to intrigue the reader enough to call you in for an interview. So your resume should keep 'em reading, by giving them what they're hoping to find -- a candidate who is looking to fill their need.

One-Minute Makeover: First ask yourself, do you need an objective statement? Only career changers and recent graduates do. If you are looking for a similar job, in the same industry you are currently in, leave it off.

If you do need an objective statement, make sure yours mentions these 3 things and nothing more: The type (and level) of position you're aiming at; the specific industry (if it differs from the one you're in); and your strongest qualifications and skills for that job.
